The majestic art of legendary black-and-white magazine THE SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN is presented in a deluxe hardcover art book worthy of Crom himself!

Following the massive success of Marvel’s color CONAN THE BARBARIAN comic, the Hyborian was given his own B&W magazine to better capture the bone-crushing action of the barbarian’s world. The series’ fully painted covers featured gorgeous illustrations by Boris Vallejo, Michael Kaluta,Earl Norem and others — while the many pinups and spot illustrations are hidden gems waiting to be rediscovered by Conan fans. With 235 issues inits epic history, there is no shortage of mind-blowing SAVAGE SWORD art —and this deluxe hardcover shares the best of it!

Robert E. Howard: A Closer Look
Now available!

By Charles Hoffman and Marc Cerasini
Paperback, 352 pages, $20.00
Cover art and frontispiece by Rick McCollum. Cover design by Daniel V. Sauer
In 1987, Charles Hoffman and Marc A. Cerasini published a volume on Robert E. Howard for the acclaimed Starmont Reader’s Guides series. Even then, the book was a pioneering study of Howard’s life and work. In the decades that have followed, a great deal of additional research has been done on the life and times of the inventor of Conan, and the authors have now prepared a radically expanded and updated version of their monograph, taking account of these new discoveries.
The book is structured along the lines of the superheroes that Howard created as a means of expressing his admiration for the values of barbarian and pioneer life: Bran Mak Morn, the Pictish chieftain who battles the Romans in Britain; Solomon Kane, the 17th-century Puritan who spans the globe in quest of adventure and the righting of wrongs; King Kull of Valusia, a valiant warrior at the dawn of history; and, of course, Conan of Cimmeria, who embodied Howard’s thirst for untrammeled freedom and the virtues of combat.
Hoffman and Cerasini also study Howard’s tales of pure horror, including “Pigeons from Hell,” his other fantasy tales, his poetry, and other elements of his work. All in all, Robert E. Howard: A Closer Look is an invaluable guide to the life and literary output of this powerfully original writer whose work has inspired imitations, film and comic book adaptations, and devoted readers around the world.

Thousands of years before the dawn of Conan, barbarian tribes rose across the Thurian continent, threatening the civilizations whose crumbling city walls still stood against them. In this ruthless age, there rose a man—an exile, no less—who would come to rule mighty Atlantis in the years before it crashed beneath the waves. This man was Kull and a host of Marvel's greatest talents would chronicle his saga—his exile and savage youth; his exploits on the high seas; his rise through the gladiatorial pits and military ranks; his reign as king; and his epic battles with the skull-faced sorcerer Thulsa Doom.

Experience Kull's complete black-and-white magazine tales in this Omnibus volume, all painstakingly restored from the highest fidelity materials in Marvel's archives.
