BY CROM, THE GREATEST SWORD-AND-SORCERY HERO RETURNS TO MARVEL!

From an age undreamed…hither came Conan the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandaled feet…

Robert E. Howard’s creation returns to comics, in an epic tale as only MARVEL could bring you! Conan’s travels have brought him to the far reaches of the unkown, from his birthplace in Cimmeria to the kingdom of Aquilonia and all in between. As his fighting prowess allows him to carve his way through life, so too does it attract the forces of death!

The all-new ages-spanning saga begins here, by writer Jason Aaron (THE MIGHTY THOR, STAR WARS) and artist Mahmud Asrar (UNCANNY X-MEN, ALL-NEW, ALL-DIFFERENT AVENGERS), as Conan’s destiny is forever changed!

Full Color, 48 pages, $4.99, On sale January 2.

Famous Someday:
A Robert E. Howard LitCrit TriplePunchPack!
by Don Herron
Now available!

Rolling into Texas for the annual Robert E. Howard Days celebration in Cross Plains in the years counting down to the centennial of the writer’s birth in 2006, Leo Grin and Don Herron took a few notable side excursions.

They interviewed the last few people who had known REH. They followed some leads and tracked down a nice trove of books that had belonged to Doctor Isaac M. Howard — and were amazed to find that many of the items housed elaborate doodles from Howard’s father. (They even turned up the typescript for Howard’s first book, A Gent from Bear Creek, prepared by the Otis Adelbert Kline literary agency.)

All these adventures in biography jumped into print in Leo’s magazine The Cimmerian, which for a few years erupted volcanically on the Howardian landscape — and now are available once more for any fan of the creator of Conan.

Ever wonder how REH pronounced various words — such as, oh, Conan and Tarzan?

How good he was with a knife?

If he pounded out all his stories on his lonesome or hired a typist to prep clean copies, as he became more and more successful and cracked one pulp magazine market after another?

Read the interviews with the Baker Kids and Norris Chambers. Savor Doc’s Doodles in full color for the first time — The Cimmerian was printed in black-and-white. And take a rough-and-ready gander at Doc Howard's library courtesy of the research images shot on the spot.

Kindle price: $2.99

H P Lovecraft and Robert E Howard: A Contrast in Horror

Pulp Hero Press
ROBERT E. HOWARD: A LITERARY BIOGRAPHY
By David C. Smith
Now available in softcover and eBook editions!

Hither Came REH...

From a single, stifling room in a small sagebrush town in central Texas, hunched over a manual typewriter, Robert E. Howard created memorable characters, exotic worlds, and glorious pulp adventures. In this new biography, Howard is firmly established as an important figure in American literature.

Before taking his own life at the age of 30, the precocious Howard was one of the most popular writers of the pulp magazine era of the Jazz Age and the Great Depression. Recognized today as the creator of Conan the Cimmerian and the originator of the sword-and-sorcery genre, he was also a gifted poet and the author of now-classic horror stories, historical dramas, and comical tall tales.

But the gifted and brilliant Howard saw himself as an outsider in the small Texas town where he lived with his father, a physician, and his mother, who battled ill health for much of her life. Constrained by circumstance, Howard put into his fiction the excitement of far horizons that he himself was denied.

David C. Smith, himself a recognized author of fantasy and adventure fiction, here presents the unique story of a young man who defied the odds of his time and place to become a writer whose work is still enjoyed by millions. Smith shows us how Howard fulfilled his readers’ expectations for page-turning excitement while writing with poetic precision and creating archetypal characters that are now part of mainstream American popular culture.

Print Length: 259 pages
Kindle: $7.99
